Brownville - Wastewater Collection System

The Brownville Wastewater Collection System consists of approximately 3 miles of 8 inch PVC gravity sewer. In addition to the gravity sewer, there are three submersible pumping stations and a drywell / wetwell pump installation through which the entire flow is pumped to the wastewater treatment plant. Force mains range in size of 2”, 3”, and 6 inch in diameter and account for approximately 0.5 miles of the system. The collection system services approximately 870 people. The collection system is divided into the following four service areas.

Brownville - Force Mains

a.) A 6-inch force main is provided from pump station 31 to the wastewater treatment plant. Ductile iron pipe is used from pump station #1 across the Pleasant River and then turns to PVC. Flow enters the influent monitoring manhole at the wastewater treatment facility.

 b.) A 2-inch PVC force main is provided from pumping station #2 to the Upper North street sewer.

c.) A 2-inch PVC force main is provided from pumping station #3 to Elm St. For the river crossing the force main is installed on the downstream side of the bridge structure crossing the pleasant river. The force main across the bridge is insulated and heat traced to prevent freezing.

d.) A 3-inch force main is provided from pumping station #4 to Curve St. where it meets the 2” force main from pumping station #3 at special manhole #58.

 

Brownville - Pumping Stations
 

Pumping Station #1 is located off North Front Street and is equipped with the following features:

Basket strainer located in the wetwell for primary screening
High water and low water alarms
2 dry sump wastewater pumps
 level pump room
Standby generator and automatic transfer switch for uninterrupted operation during power failures ( Kohler 46 KVA, 120/208 volt, 3 phase generator )
Heating, ventilation and dehumidification

 

Pumping stations # 2, 3, and 4 are all submersible pumping stations, each equipped with the following:

Duplex submersible pump system with a slide away coupling discharge connection and guide rail for ease of maintenance
High water and low water alarm lights
Generator failure ( Main Pump Station only )
High temperature alarm
Basket screen for all inlet sewer pipes
